LCD vs. Plasma vs. LED

If you decide to buy a new HDTV you will have three choices in the market when it comes to the display technology used,namely – Plasma , LCD and LED. So what is the difference between these technologies and which one should you choose?

LCD TVs:

LCD is an acronym for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD TVs have Cold Cathode Florescent Lamps or CCFLs that illuminate the molecules of liquid crystals to produce images. LCD TVs have lesser contrast and brightness when compared to their counter-parts. However they are the cheapest among the three and consume less power than a plasma TV.

Plasma TVs:

In Plasma TVs the images are created from gases containing neon and xenon atoms. They produce deep dark areas in an image making them more crisp. Plasma screens give better colour and lighting when compared to LED TVs. However Plasma TVs are the most power hungry and give out more heat than compared to the other two displays.

LED TVs:

LED TVs are basically the same as LCD TVs however instead of CCFLs they use light emitting diodes or LEDs to illuminate the display. This eliminates the numerous black spots that were situated as a result of using fluorescent lights. LED TVs have the best contrast and colour ratios and a much wider viewing angle. They also consume much less power compared to other displays. The only downside is that LEDs are relatively more expensive than their counterparts.

If you are purchasing a TV screen, it wiser to invest in a LED TV as it as a better image quality as well as lesser power consumption. Also the prices of LED TVs are steadily decreasing making it easier for you to pick one up that you can afford.
