The Best Cameraphone Money Can Buy

Cameraphones have come long way since it first arrived in the limelight with Japans J-phones. The Technology has evolved a lot since then and nowadays every phone in the market has an inbuilt camera in them. You may be a professional photographer or a just a casual photo clicker, but you can’t deny the importance of cameras in phones these days.

So now you must be wondering which is the best cameraphone currently in the market ? Well, the answer is quite simple – The Nokia Pureview 808 is hands down the best out out there with a whooping 41 megapixel camera.

The Spec sheet and Features for the Nokia PureView 808:

  • 41 megapixel autofocus camera with xenon flash and 1080p@30fps video recording
  • Two capture modes: 38MP/34MP full-res and 3MP/5MP/8MP PureView
  • Camera features: giant 1/1.2″ camera sensor, mechanical shutter, ND filter, geotagging, face detection, up to 4x lossless digital zoom
  • 4″ 16M-color AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution
  • Nokia Belle OS with Feature Pack 1
  • Single-core 1.3 GHz ARM 11 CPU and 512 MB RAM
  • microHDMI port for HD TV-out functionality
  • GPS receiver with A-GPS support and free voice-guided navigation
  • 16GB on-board storage, expandable up to 32GB through the microSD card slot
  • Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic
  • DivX and XviD video support
  • NFC support
  • Scratch resistant Gorilla glass display

DESIGN:

With the huge sensor fitted to the mobile, the Nokia PureView 808 is a very bulky and hefty mobile phone. This phone will make sure you notice that you are carrying a mobile phone in your pocket. For the overall build, Nokia is gone the plastic way but don’t be fooled the Nokia PureView is built pretty sturdy and can give stiff competition to its metal bodied counterparts. The phone has a good grip which is essential when it comes to taking pictures. The NFC chipset is integrated to the back cover of handset.

The phone has a 1400mAh battery which performs quite well. It boasts a battery life of around 6.5hr (3G) to 11hr (GSM) talk time and 465hr (3G) to 540hr (GSM) standby time.

DISPLAY:

The PureView comes with a 4” AMOLED Display protected by a Gorilla Glass. The screen is very eligible in a low light environment and possesses a good overall contrast ratio. However it still only has a resolution of 640×360, I was hoping to see a Full HD screen especially considering the price of the device.

CAMERA:

When it comes to the camera, this phone hits all the tick marks.  The 1/1.2″ image sensor may have a 41MP resolution, but the maximum resolution for still photos is 38MP in a 4:3 aspect ratio and 34MP in a 16:9 aspect ratio. At default the Nokia PureView 808 shoots photos at 8 megapixels in Pureview Mode. The PureView Technology is based on ‘Pixel Oversampling’, which basically means that pixels are combined together to form a pixel of higher quality. The end result is pictures that are so crisp and sharp that you can notice the minutest detail when zoomed in. The good part about this technology is that it applies also to the video processing.

The camera UI is neat and straightforward. You can choose the automatic mode to shoot amazing photos with a change of settings. For professionals, there is a creative mode that enables you to change every setting and feature possible like ISO, Lighting, etc.

The camera comes with a Carl Zeiss Lens and a very powerful Xenon flash, and LED flash is used during video recording.

Heres a Video showcasing the camera :

INTERFACE:

One of the major drawbacks of the Nokia PureView 808 is the Symbian OS that runs it. The phone has the latest Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1, which is comparatively better than its predecessor Symbian Anna. However it still lacks a lot when compared to Android, iOS or Windows phone. Even Nokia seems to know that the Symbian OS is reaching its end, and talks are on to release a Windows phone with PureView Technology. So don’t be surprised to see a Windows phone 8 Device with PureView anytime next year.

VERDICT:

The Nokia PureView 808 is by far the best camera phone to ever hit the market and there is no arguing about. However with a steep price and a dying symbian OS this phone isn’t one for everyone. I recommend this phone for professional photographers or people who love to click photos of their everyday life.

Hi there! Do you are aware of when they make any plugins to protect from hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing all the things I’ve worked tough on. Any recommendations?

You could try different anti-virus softwares out there, like Avast & AVG which are free or if your willing to spend money, I suggest you use Norton or Kapersky
